Richard Morhard has kindly donated several locomotives for sale, with the proceeds going to the Club. More locomotives will follow.
Item: PRR FM Erie-Built A-A Diesels, 9477/9476 (both powered, O-Scale, 2-Rail, DCC). These locos are barely used, run well, and are cosmetically superb. Please take a look at the photos and video for details. The price is $800 for RMCA Club members.
History: The Erie-Built dual service locomotive represented the entry of builder Fairbanks-Morse (FM) into the large cab style road locomotive market. With a carbody styled by industrial designer Raymond Loewy, these 2,000 hp locomotives were actually contracted by FM to be constructed at General Electric's Erie, Pennsylvania plant since they were too large for the capacity of their own shop; hence the identifying name, "Erie-Built". Produced from 1945 through 1949, these visually impressive locomotives operated on some of the nation's largest rail lines from coast to coast.
Model features include:
- Atlas URL: https://archive.atlasrr.com/OLoco/arc-ofmeriebuilt.htm. Atlas provides plenty of information on these locomotives.
- 1:48 scale dimensions and details.
- Solid die-cast chassis, fuel tank, trucks, and pilots
- Railroad-specific details
- PRR style includes the radio antenna on the Pennsylvania “A” units
- Kadee couplers
- 2-Rail with DCC (QSI decoders). These decoders alone are worth over $400.
- Parts URL: https://shop.atlasrr.com/c-24-0105.aspx. Atlas strongly supports after-sales parts and drawings for this locomotive.
Both units have heavy-duty sound decoders (QSI Titan in 9477 and QSI FX-DO in 9476) that we added to provide lighting and sound. These A units can be operated independently with sound/light or as a consist, with 9477 as the lead and 9476 as the reversed helper if you use “advanced consisting.” If you don’t know what that is, don’t worry—“universal consisting,” which most DCC throttles support, works well. There is no original box or spare parts. Should you ever need parts for these locomotives, Atlas provides them at https://shop.atlasrr.com/c-24-0105.aspx.
You can see a video of these units operating independently and in consist at the RMCA Facebook Group page.
